When a person experiences cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, the minutes before the paramedics arrive can mean life or death. People who witness the event can help but bystander CPR is performed less than half the time. Impressively, bystander CPR can double the survival rates of those who have sudden cardiac arrest. We will be sponsoring four American Heart Association bystander CPR training classes in February. Each class must have four to six Villagers. Registration is required; please call the Fearrington Cares Center (919-542-6877) for more information or to register for a class. The charge is $45 per person, payable at the class.
NORTH CAROLINA GOOD SAMARITAN LAW provides immunity from civil liability for those who provide CPR and act in good faith when using an AED to attempt to save a life. This immunity includes untrained persons who provide “Bystander CPR” and anyone who chooses to use the AED under the instruction from the 9-1-1 Emergency Medical Dispatcher.
