Meal routes cover every corner of Chatham County, providing the community with the assurance that every effort is being made to provide food to anyone aged 60 or older who has no one at home to prepare lunch and cannot do it alone.
If they may not be able to immediately add someone to a delivery route, they also have an alternative frozen meal program that can provide five lunches a week which can be heated in a microwave.
Volunteer drivers are the heart and soul of this program. All meals are prepared in their kitchen in Siler City and are delivered by a force of 80+ volunteers who rotate delivery days and routes.
The Volunteers fill a critical need that goes beyond a nutritious lunch. As they come to know the people they visit, they refer other needs to the Council on Aging staff.
