Home Services and Repairs
Founded by Certified Aging-In-Place Specialists, we curated an easier to use checklist from the most respected home standards from ADA, AARP, CDC, NIH, and more.
The goal of Accessible Places is simple; they want to help people safely live in their home for as long as possible. They offer the knowledge and tools to thoroughly evaluate your home and provide recommendations to make your home safer, prevent falls, and improve mobility so you can safely and easily live in your home for years to come.
Comments From Fearrington Village Residents:
“Many thanks, Doug. From day one of our plea-for-help in making our home as functional and lovely in our future as it is now, you have listened, and answered with compassion and thoroughness. Not only were you on time for our visit, you followed through with answers, additional information and photos of potential solutions in a timely manner. Your systematic list served as a relief to our anxieties about aging-in-place in a home where we hope to stay.”
“Thanks so much for sending these documents – a thorough report that was extremely helpful in helping us get our priorities straight around home refurbishment. Both the assessment and the resources are invaluable and will help us to move quickly on smaller, doable projects such as lighting and securing rugs. Overall, you provide an excellent service and we are happy to recommend this to anyone!”
“Doug has been very helpful in using his program to evaluate our home as to what is present and what is needed to make it completely handicapped accessible along with the resources and support needed to make this plan feasible. We are very happy with the service he has provided us.“
CERTIFIED TO LIST FOR SALE AS AGE-IN-PLACE
We recently had Doug Zabor certify our home for sale as meeting Aging-in-Place criteria set by Triangle Multiple Listing Realtors. The process was very easy, as Doug had a list of all the necessary requirements, and was very efficient in going through and explaining the benefits. He was able to tell us our score immediately and made suggestions for any improvements.”

Comments by Fearrington Village Residents:
“Patrick is a consummate handyperson perfect in so many ways. He’s insured, very well-qualified at handling a truly wide range of home maintenance and repairs. No job seems to be too small or too large. We were very pleased with his work. He is very accommodating in working out a schedule, prompt, very friendly, and very affordable.. He has worked for many other village residents, who also seem to appreciate his skills, his rates, and the quality of his work. He prefers to be contacted via text to his cell phone and does not have a website. He is the best handyperson we have ever hired.”
“Patrick Harms did a nice job yesterday on our gutters!”“We recently had Patrick Harms of Harms Handy Services clean our gutters. He was very careful and did a thorough job. We will be hiring him to do other small jobs around our Camden home. Highly recommend him.”
Joe Norwood, a Chapel Hill-based contractor and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) at Manor House Renovations, helps people live and age-in-place in their homes comfortably, conveniently, independently, and safely. There may be no need to move, for a certified aging-in-place specialist may be able to show you how to stay in the home that you LOVE!
A person with the CAPS designation is a professional who has completed extensive training, testing, and certification through the National Association of Builders. They are trained to help you choose from options such as improved lighting, easy-open door handles, simple touch plumbing, slip-resistant flooring, a range of safety features, entry and exit ramps, energy-saving smart home features, kitchen renovation, bathroom renovation and grab bars, exterior even-surface walkways and low-maintenance landscaping, and automatic whole house emergency backup power providing uninterrupted power.
The individualized home evaluation process involves a professional assessment of your current home conditions using a 117-item checklist, which includes interior and exterior areas. The checklist is designed to provide a total picture of immediate and possible future needs to support aging-in-place rather than moving to a more expensive housing alternative.
