Small Group Get-Togethers at the Center

Twice a month, Fearrington Cares offers two opportunities for monthly small groups to meet in person at the Center. We hope to create friendly conversations and connections where neighbors may meet face-to-face in a safe setting. Crossroads Conversations will address different topics each month. Busy Hands Together is an ongoing meeting of neighbors who enjoy hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, and other hand crafts.

The programs will be open only to fully vaccinated neighbors who will practice social distancing. Masks are optional. Pre-register is by calling us at 919-542-6877.

Please follow our COVID safety protocols.

Crossroad Connections: Hard Choices for Loving People
Wednesday, July 13
Repeated Wednesday, August 10
1:30 pm

In this program, Karen Metzguer, RN, will review and discuss information in a book she regularly recommends to families faced with difficult decisions when a loved one is critically ill. When do medical treatments prolong death rather than promote recovery? Karen will explore a format to help answer this question after establishing the goal of medical care and describing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and artificial nutrition and hydration. Participants will receive information about both Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) and Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment (MOST) forms plus a copy of the book Hard Choices for Loving People. Please call the Center at 919-542-6877 or send us an email to preregister for the class of your choice.

Crossroad Connections: Aging in Community
Wednesday, July 27
Repeated Wednesday, August 24
1:30 pm

In this program, Karen Metzguer, RN, will review and discuss a framework for planning to age in community for as long as one is able. As they age, many people who want to stay in their own homes find them more difficult to manage safely. Keeping a home safe entails more than just installing grab bars in the shower and begins with the recognition that “all important decisions are made on the basis of insufficient data.” Rather than be paralyzed by confusion about where and how to get started, join a small group of neighbors for a lively discussion! Please call the Center at 919-542-6877 or send us an email to preregister for the class of your choice.

Busy Hands Together
Tuesday, July 21
9:30 – 11:00 am
This will be our last meeting until September

Do you enjoy handwork or have a button that needs re-attaching? Would you enjoy crafting with others? If you crochet, knit, make cards, scrapbook, needlepoint, or enjoy another craft, bring your project and join us for a monthly get-together every third Tuesday morning. This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors and get some work done on your favorite craft.
