FC Center Small Original Building in Preparation for ExpansionThe small size of the building is much easier to realize after all the site had been cleared to prepare for construction work to begin. After 29 years of growth, we needed more office, programming, and service space. FC Construction Crew Began Clearing the Site August 05, 2019Following many delays caused by a series of required inspection, permitting, and scheduling steps, the view from Karen Metzguer's side office window as the first heavy equipment was brought to the site to begin clearing the lot and leveling the construction area. Jeff Hopper & Karen MetzguerOur builder, Jeff Hopper & Karen Metzguer, FC Nurse and Executive Director, discuss the state of "The Build" on December 09, 2019. At this stage, a great deal of the "hidden work" in laying out the foundation was done, ready for framing, walls, and roof trusses. FC New Construction Slab on December 10, 2019Following several weeks clearing the site, allowing wet ground to dry out, leveling/stabilizing the ground, installing foundation infrastructure (pilings, water/sewer lines, and buried electric service cables), the cement slab was poured so curing could begin. FC Building Framing Was Well Underway Soon After ThanksgivingIn this photo taken on December 12, 2019--after a great deal of prior site preparation and complicated foundation construction work--the framing was well underway and walls could soon be added by mid-December. Looking back to the beginning of August 2019, much good work had been accomplished. FC Building Walls Are UpBy late December 2019, the walls had been added to the framing in preparation for installing the roof trusses, which would soon follow in very early January, after the end-of-the-year holidays and the beginning of 2020. FC Building Construction Trusses Up in Early January 2020On the first weekend of January 2020, just prior to a predicted heavy high wind storm, two construction workers came to the site on an unscheduled work weekend to raise and secure the roof trusses so the building would have added strength. Amount of Roof Completed as of January 14, 2020This photo, taken in the early afternoon of January 14, 2020, midway through the month and five and half months into the build, provides a wide-angle perspective of not only the amount of roof that has been built but also a view of the overall dimensions of the expanded Fearrington Cares Center when completed. All Under Rood, Shingled, & Windows InstalledThis very wide-angle photo taken in the mid-afternoon on February 15, 2020, one month after the previous photo in this series, shows the extent of the exterior progress achieved in four weeks. Great progress was also achieved in the interior framing, wiring, insulation, plumbing, electrical, and other infrastructure (none of which is visible in this view).
