Karen Metzguer
Executive Director and Registered Nurse

Karen has been a practicing nurse since 1976 and is a retired Professor of Pediatrics, University of North Carolina School of Medicine. She spent 35 years working in infant mortality reduction at local, state, and national levels. Karen worked as a Red Cross disaster nurse from 1995 to 2002 and assisted in emergency operations across North Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. She is also experienced as a hospice nurse and geriatric care manager.

Paula Easton
Administrative Assistant

Paula was born in Chicago, moved to New York City, and later moved to North Carolina, her home now for more than 40 years. She attended the University of Illinois, majoring in math education. Paula started her career in advertising and then worked in marketing and human resources. After retiring, she served first as a hospice volunteer and then became an administrative assistant for Fearrington Cares. Paula also volunteers for the animal rescue organization CARE (Chatham Animal & Rescue Education).

Emily Henderson
Administrative Coordinator

Emily has more than 30 years of accounting experience working with automobile dealers and later, at the regional level, serving multiple stores. She was also the controller at an agricultural dealer and owned of her own small business accounting firm. Emily uses Quickbooks Online and Desktop software and was a Quickbooks Online ProAdvisor. She was most fulfilled when she helped a financially troubled business turn around. Emily is interested in many subjects including science, art, and charity work.

Ellen Hoosick
Administrative Assistant

Ellen earned a BS in social work from SUNY Albany. Before joining Fearrington Cares, she spent 20 years in medical billing and administration, including 10 years as a cardiology practice manager. Most recently, she was employed at Medical Claims Rx, where she helped people choose insurance plans and deal with medical claim issues. Ellen’s past volunteer work includes serving as an activities volunteer in long-term care facilities and participating in friendly visitor programs for seniors.
