Executive Director and Registered Nurse
Karen has been a practicing nurse since 1976 and is a retired Professor of Pediatrics, University of North Carolina School of Medicine. She spent 35 years working in infant mortality reduction at local, state, and national levels. Karen worked as a Red Cross disaster nurse from 1995 to 2002 and assisted in emergency operations across North Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. She is also experienced as a hospice nurse and geriatric care manager.
Paula was born in Chicago, moved to New York City, and later moved to North Carolina, her home now for more than 40 years. She attended the University of Illinois, majoring in math education. Paula started her career in advertising and then worked in marketing and human resources. After retiring, she served first as a hospice volunteer and then became an administrative assistant for Fearrington Cares. Paula also volunteers for the animal rescue organization CARE (Chatham Animal & Rescue Education).
Christy is a native North Carolinian and lover of this part of the state. She became acquainted with Fearrington Cares (FC) in the spring of 2015. At that time, Christy was studying at the BodyTherapy Institute in Siler City, North Carolina, and was assigned to FC for her community externship. Seeing this amazing organization in action while she worked with Fearrington villagers had a profound impact on her, so she decided to stay and joined the FC staff. Christy is also a licensed massage and bodywork therapist.
