Become a Volunteer

Studies have shown that volunteers enjoy a higher quality of life, reduced isolation, stronger social networks, and a sense of personal growth. You’ll meet new people, develop new skills, and feel more connected with other villagers. We have a lot of options. Take a look at the volunteer opportunities below.

When you are ready to volunteer, complete our online volunteer interest form.

Ambassador

Welcome new neighbors and tell them about the services and programs Fearrington Cares offers. Keep neighbors informed on an ongoing basis.

Board Member
Provide leadership while shaping the future direction of Fearrington Cares. Candidates are considered for membership in the spring.

Committee Member
Help advance Fearrington Cares by joining a committee. Current committees are programs, finance, communications, fund development, and community events.

Driver

Using your own vehicle, drive residents to and from medical appointments and pick up neighbors’ prepaid grocery or pharmacy orders. Driving is restricted to a 25-mile radius of Fearrington Village. Drivers work in teams of three and are assigned to cover 1 week at a time twice a year. Good driving skills, a current driver’s license, and insurance are required.

Please print out this Volunteer Driver Car Information Form and return it to the Fearrington Cares office.

Back-up Driver

Using your own vehicle, provide transportation on an “on call” basis and as a substitute for regularly scheduled drivers.

Handyperson

Perform minor home repairs or maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and fixing leaky faucets. You’ll need your own tools. Requires basic home repair skills, but you don’t need knowledge of all home maintenance issues.

Special Events
Help with arrangements for one-time or special programs by setting up chairs, helping with registration and refreshments, preparing mailings, and more.
